Get ready for a “tale as old as time” with a fresh twist as Crew’s Intermediate Performance Ensemble presents Disney’s Beauty and the Beast JR! This beast of a show is packed with dazzling dance numbers, show-stopping songs, and plenty of enchanted surprises.

Join Belle on her adventure as she discovers that true beauty is more than skin deep, while the Beast learns that love can break even the strongest curse. Add a cheeky candlestick, a wise old clock, and a teapot who knows how to pour on the charm, and you’ve got a recipe for a magical time at the theatre!

This production is double-cast - The Mob and The Forks - and the role of Belle is triple cast - Ada, Billie and Emily - with performance times. Direction and Vocal Direction by David Thomson with Choreography by Bridget Cooper, and Costumes by Helen Cronin. This is the perfect show for teens, kids and all those young at heart.

Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the Hippo, and Melman the Giraffe as they swap city life in the Central Park Zoo for a wild adventure!

When a group of mischievous penguins break out of the zoo, Marty follows them onto the streets of New York. Worried for Marty’s safety, his Zooster friends set out to bring him home only to all end up tranquilised and on a boat! Dropped overboard in crates when the penguins take over the boat, the Zoosters wash ashore on the island of Madagascar. Enter the hilarious King Julien and his tribe of lemurs pursued by the scary Foosa and Marty’s dreams of adventure and going wild are delivered!

Packed with catchy songs, dancing animals, and laugh-out-loud moments, this musical is a fun-filled journey about friendship, freedom, and finding your true home.

We offer a range of performing arts classes including musical theatre, screen acting, theatrical dance and singing. All classes are led by highly experienced and qualified industry professionals and/or teachers.

THEATRICAL DANCE CLASSES - covering theatrical jazz, tap, fitness, and flexibility, as well as exploring a range of dance styles from hip-hop to lyrical inspired by great musical and theatrical shows! Lead Dance Tutor: Bridget Cooper.
OPEN MUSICAL THEATRE CLASSES - offer fun learning and confidence building in musical theatre skills culminating in a fully staged performance, with classes for 6-18 year olds. Lead Tutors: David Thomson and Shannae Shead.
MUSICAL THEATRE PERFORMANCE ENSEMBLES - are our by audition public performance by audition training classes that present a public season of shows. We still have lots or fun, but there is a much higher expectation on performance standards, individual responsibility and high levels of collaboration required. Lead Tutors: Leiz Moore, David Thomson and Shannae Shead.
PRIVATE SINGING LESSONS - provide personalised training by highly qualified industry professionals who have performance experience and expertise in musical theatre as well as contemporary and/or classical voice. Tutors: Lisa Crosato, Emily Garth, David Thomson, Shannae Shead & Junior Tutor Harriet Gould.
SCREEN ACTING CLASSES - are small classes offer the best in contemporary practice in acting for screen, with groups for teens who are starting out through to intensive programs for experienced adult actors. Lead Tutor: Alison Stanton-Cook.
PRODUCTION SKILLS MENTORING - is offered through experiential learning and coaching by our experienced team of designers, directors, choreographers, music directors and technical production members, covering planning, design, rehearsal, costuming, props, stage management, lighting, sound and FOH for shows. Mentors: Leiz Moore, Allan Jeffrey, Helen Cronin, Alison Stanton-Cook, and associates Andrew Johns and Morgan Lunn.
All our classes are capped in size to enable effective tutor-student engagement, individual learning and meaningful participation.

‘Justice’ took the stand in Musical Theatre Crew's Senior Performance Ensemble production of this iconic musical about murder, celebrity and all that jazz!

Every child and young person has the right to be safe, for their voice to be heard, and to be able to participate in decisions affecting them. We pay respect to Aboriginal and Torres Strait children and young people, and their rich and enduring connection to family, country and story telling. We recognise the need to be inclusive of all children from any and diverse cultures and backgrounds, such as those who are linguistically diverse, unable to live at home, living with disability and/or chronic health conditions, and LGBTIQA+.

Keeping children and young people safe is everyone’s responsibility at Crew. Musical Theatre Crew policies guide and support everyone involved - tutors, volunteers, students and families - to understand and put into practice the National Child Safe Principles.

- engaging young performers during lockdown through our online education program

Crew’s Principals, Leiz Moore and Allan Jeffrey, are Co-Producers with Petr Divis and Mark Wojcik of The Show Company, an adult community theatre production company which has brought blockbuster musicals to the Theatre Royal including WICKED in 2017, MARY POPPINS in 2018 and MAMMA MIA! in 2020. Allan directed these award-winning shows with Leiz choreographing Poppins in association the Crew's award-winning choreographer, Mandy Lowrie, and Mamma Mia! in association with Callum Gugger.
The Show Company has been nominated for 17 Tasmanian Theatre Awards (Musical Theatre) and has won 7 Awards including Best Direction, Best Production, Best Musical Direction and Best Ensemble amongst others. Each show has starred or featured Musical Theatre Crew students or alumni.

Our fabulous Seniors presented a night of cabaret celebrating some of the world’s great musicals featuring songs from Mamma Mia, Into the Woods, Beauty & the Beast, Godspell and more!

10 Years of training Hobart talent and crowd-pleasing shows!

Musical Theatre Crew has a reputation as a centre of excellence in musical theatre training for young people, using an engaging mix of experiential learning, master classes and industry and community theatre engagement.

Our students have gone on to perform in professional and community productions for The Show Company, Hamley Productions, John X Presents, G&S Society, Hobart Rep and Bijou Creative and locally produced film/TV commercials and productions. Our alumni have secured places in highly competitive professional musical theatre courses around Australia including WAAPA (think Hugh Jackman, Lucy Durack, Eddie Perfect and Tim Minchin), Victorian College of the Arts, Patrick Studios, NIDA, Griffith University, and Federation University.

Our fantastic tutors have vast industry and community theatre experience in singing, dancing, acting, directing and producing. In addition we provide ‘on-the-job’ training in off-stage production including directing, choreography, vocal direction, lighting, sound, costume and set design and more. Our tutor team includes award-winning choreographer and musical theatre performer Mandy Lowrie (starred as Donna in Mamma Mia), internationally acclaimed singer and singing teacher Jane Edwards, Tasmanian Theatre Award winning performers Samantha Jean and David Abbott, talented Crew alumni Caitlin Carnaby, Jaime Mollineaux-Herbert, Lucinda Smith and our Principals, Tasmanian Theatre Award-winning producer Leiz Moore and director/producer Allan Jeffrey.
